PuppetsPuppets

18.02.2010, Ilona Labuťová

We are looking for ways to approach theatre. The more we search, the more it becomes apparent that we still have a long journey ahead of us. We are all learning. Our future actors are learning, and Štěpán and I, the future directors of novel performances, are learning too.

For now, we’re exploring. Space, movement, working with the voice and body. Everyone has different abilities, different limitations and a different imagination. Things can’t be rushed.

Last week we focused on working with the body. It was something that’s difficult to achieve: a state of relaxation. To be a puppet that can only come alive in the hands of a puppeteer. It sounds easy, but it’s hard work. To relax. We are using real puppets, so that everyone can better understand how this works. We ourselves become the puppets, as well as the puppeteers. The workshop ends with a small improvisation, which is very popular. This time we used the scenario “A puppet shop after closing hours”.

You’d be surprised to find out what can happen in such a shop.
