I Conquer Public Spaces Day by DayI Conquer Public Spaces Day by Day

26.04.2010, Josef Fojt

I am a person with a slight mental disability. I conquer public spaces day by day, evening by evening. I go to the theatre or to see a film in the Světozor cinema, etc. After the performance or the film I usually go to a club for a good drink. I also go to Inventura, where we shoot cartoons and documentaries, with which we would like to dispel the myths about us – people with a disability – that are still circulating in the so-called majority society.

I would like to show people especially in my native village of Radonice where I used to feel and still do from time to time that they take me for an “adult child” (for example, some of them still me “Pepíček”, which I really don’t like), that their ideas about me and others are erroneous and distorted. In order to show them that we can create something, I am shooting films, I present various events (for example, in the Potrvá café), I am a member of an amateur theatre group (performances in Olomouc and at La Fabrica, etc.) and I visit theatre cafés, where I talk to famous actors from time to time and sometimes amaze them with my knowledge of the film and TV world. That’s why I often take my friends from Inventura to the theatre (for example last time I took Martin Vošmik to Café Ypsilon, where I introduced him to several actors and we had a coffee).

Currently at Inventura we’re making a documentary about the coming elections, supervised by the famous documentary maker, Linda Jablonská. Czech Television has already expressed interest in the documentary. We already shot a survey at the Anděl metro station, we shot near Prague in the small town of Klecany and we’re going to visit pre-election meetings of political parties and movements, where we’re going to record the reactions of those who will stand in the elections, that is our politicians, and their allies (such as artists presenting at their meetings or their potential voters). This is another way to conquer public spaces.

Let us hope the documentary will be a success. I wish it for all of us!

Přeju, ať si to někdo z Radonic přečte. Těším se na další věci, co vytvoříte.
