The Zlíchov steam plant
07.10.2009, Josef Fojt Today I want to write about something other than film or theatre (because I just saw two new Czech films and one play at Činoherní klub). Today I want to write about something unique, which I saw on the way to filming Muchomůrky.
I went to the Meet Factory to the filming of a video clip for the song Muchomůrky bílé by the band Garage, which we’re just finishing up with Inventura. All of a sudden, I heard two loud whistles from the Zlíchov steam plant depot. When I looked in that direction, I couldn’t believe my eyes. An ancient steamroller, with a big flywheel, a roller in the front and iron wheels at the back, was driving out of the steam plant. In the front, it had the inscription “Českomoravská Kolben-Daněk”. It was operated by two men. One was the driver and the other was the stoker. When I asked the driver what year the machine was from, he said it was from 1930. Thanks to my natural curiosity, I also found out that they were on the way to Ladronka to some event.
With this post, I want to celebrate the skill of people who are able to maintain such a machine in working order in this day and age. They deserve my awe and praise. May there be more such enthusiasts.
